One day we took a 14 mile drive up a bumpy Forest Service road to visit a promised mountain lake named Rainbow Lake. It turns out that much of the irrigation water around our campground comes from Rainbow Lake. The ride was uneventful except that it shook Steve's liver loose, Michelle and Jim lost kidneys and Gari's molars loosened. Just kidding, but it was a bumpy ride up that 14 miles!
There it is, Rainbow Lake at 10,850 ft! Michelle and Jim step out onto a rock pier for a hero shot.
It was beautiful and very remote up here. We were on high alert for predators; bears, cougars, and wolves. Fortunately we didn't see any of those but we did see other critters...
Romeo parks proudly and sits ready to return us to the campground below.
This looks like Steve becoming one with the lake.
Michelle celebrates by skipping a few flat stones across the lake.
We spotted a pair of Gray-jays. Steve said they can be a little aggressive; no sooner did he utter that when one of the birds dive bombed us! They must have had a nest up in that Spruce tree.
Below is the rest of the critters we observed way up there. We sometimes call these critters Slow Elk, better known as Cows.
As we wandered around the lake a bit, we crested a small hill and saw BRIAN! That was the end of that stroll, back into Romeo we jumped and back down the mountain we rode! No one wanted to have a conversation with that guy!
