A Bowl of Snew

He said:  I went to the town cafe today and had a delicious bowl of Snew.
She said:  What's Snew?
He said:  Oh not much, what 'snew with you?

We continue to enjoy our time in Sun City, Arizona and our visits with Shilo and her furry boyz Alex and Hunter.  We are keeping busy with this and that and share a few pictures below as we knock around Sun City and Sun City West.

We visited with the local Veterans for a pancake breakfast on Veteran's Day.  The Vets on the front line served up the hot cakes.
The queue led inside to the sausage line, yummy.
God Bless America and our Veterans, Amen.  Breakfast is served, enjoy!
We take care of our medical and dental needs while we stay in Sun City.  Below is a place Steve is spending lots of time and money, Elegant Dentistry.  The latest project is an implant that Steve calls his Bionic Tooth.
Gari looked at new shoes.  The last time that happened was too many years ago.
We like to ride our bicycles around town.  This day we rode to the Safeway grocery store for a few supplies.  Gari has a basket on the back rack of her bike.  The Styrofoam cooler fits perfectly into the basket.  Gari can fit and carry quite a few groceries in that rig, even the cold goods!
All three of us, Gari, Shilo and Steve made an appointment with Gary at Happy Trails to see the RV Resort.  Happy Trails sells RV lots, some people build sheds or even "Arizona Houses" on the site with their RV.  An Arizona House is a local name for a small Casita or small house, usually under 1,000 sq ft.
Happy Trails front gate.  We enjoyed the tour, but don't think we are buyers quite yet.
Next project on tap is what Steve calls the Sheik of Arabique Curtains.  Steve demonstrates the installation concept below.
But first a bourbon planning session...
OK session is over, cut him off!
Gari gets to work pre-assembling the curtain rod brackets.
Measuring...
Marking, under surveillance by the job bosses...
Drilling the stucco...
Installing the curtain rod brackets...
Final installation, inspector returns.
Finished product.
Area light is out of service...
Lamp shade says it uses a 12 Volt, 3 Watt LED light.
Below is the LED, right in the center of the printed circuit board.  It turned out that no voltage was getting to the board and we corrected the problem buried in the stones near the base of the lamppost.  Once again the patio is bathed in light.
We snuck in a battery replacement job in Shilo's Honda.  November is a good time to replace old batteries before it turns cold and leaves you stranded.
Next project, cleaning of the Fantastic Fans.  These things get nasty dirty after a few years of use.  Below is a picture of our rear fan opened on the roof of Penelope.
Fan assembly is removed in one piece and is on the table ready for disassembly and cleaning. White vinegar and little Clorox will do the job.
Gari removes the dirty lid.
Lots of mold and mildew on the inside of the lid.
Separating the control board from the fan.
There's the plug.
Fan all cleaned, reassembled and reinstalled.  Gari points the remote control and smiles; it must be working!
Last project we will save for a day while we are in Yuma, AZ.  This is the inside view of the Solar Power junction box on the roof of Penelope.  The two busses connect the output of the solar panels to the input of the solar controller.  The busses are corroded, no dielectric grease was applied during installation.  The stranded wire is also pretty messy, many of the wire strands did not tread through the buss openings and are just frayed back.  We will find or rebuild the buss board, dress up and grease the wires and connection points and reassemble the box as it should be.

Back in Paradise... Literally.

We have returned to fair weather Sun City, Arizona as of October 1st.  This will be our third visit in as many years in our RV.  We found the very first year, what has become a favorite RV resort, Paradise RV Resort.  So there you have it, we are parked in Paradise!  The things that make Paradise one of our favorite places;
  • It is close to Gari's mom's place in Sun City West, less than 3 miles by the crow's flight
  • It is very quiet at night. It's a 55+ y/o resort.
  • The RV sites are good.  Level, maintained utilities, manicured gravel and concrete patios on most sites.
  • The overall resort is attractively landscaped and maintained.
  • All of the workers here are super friendly and helpful.  Great professionalism.
  • Most all of the visitors are friendly.  We have run across a few that refuse to say hi or give a friendly wave.  Sad for them.
  • The price is excellent, especially considering what you get here.  We got a deal paying $9.50 a day plus our electric, which averages out to about $13.65 total per day for us.  We were becoming happy finding a place for $35 per night on our 2016 East Coast Loop... for dirt parking and no sewer and no WiFi!
  • The amenities at Paradise are endless; great swimming pool, exercise room, billiard room, tennis courts, pickle ball courts, shuffleboard and lawn bowling, wood shop, glass & pottery studio, entertainment auditorium, post office, 24 hr security staff, hot tubs, and on site cafe.   whew, that's most of it, but there is even more!  Great place.
Now you know why we like Paradise, so let's walk around and see what it looks like in pictures!  Below is our rig Penelope parked on 16th Street looking toward the west.

Full view of our patio side.  By noon we are in the shadow of the trailer so patio sitting works well here.  We keep our bicycles in front under the overhang.
Below is the back view of our camp.  We took the kayaks off the truck roof while driving around town and stored them underneath the back of the trailer.  The black box mod on the rear receiver has worked very well.  Thanks to Jake in SD for hooking us up with the new part.  The box is riding high and straight.

The view below is standing at the front of our trailer looking east up 16th Street.
Below we are on our way to the clubhouse and pool.  The picture is actually looking the opposite direction toward the back of the resort down Paradise Drive.
Below we arrive first at the Lawn Bowling area.  You can see the bowling clubhouse and storage sheds lining the Bent Grass green.
Close up on the bowling equipment sheds.
Refreshment area in front.
Standing at the Bowling clubhouse looking across the green to the main Resort Clubhouse.  They even have bleachers for spectators at the bowling green!  We must get some pictures of the bowlers in action.
Walking past the Wood Shop window Gari stops to admire a playing card holder.  You will notice her right hand is in a splint after her treatment for Dupuytren’s contracture.  It turns out that treatment really hurt, but you know Gari, not a single complaint.
This is our Post Office.  We have box #1621.
Now we are coming into the swimming pool area.  Below is a nice conversation nook with a propane fire pit.
The nice swimming pool.
There is an island with a shade umbrella in the hot tub.  We like to get in there after our swim.
An upholstered corner sofa in the pool area.
Showers to rinse off after a swim.  Live. Laugh. Love!
That's Polly's Pond sitting area below.
 Pickle Ball courts

Now we are walking back to our lot on 16th Street and we pass one of the special cacti.
It's the cacti growing in the roof gutter!
Back on Paradise Drive looking down the utility corridor.
Back in the rig and Gari check out her sore flipper.  Steve's duties have increase significantly, because Gari used to do just about everything, now she can't.  Steve has also become the Royal Hair-Braider of the Triple Slide.
Royal Hair Braids.
