We Didn't Expect to be in Bluff, Utah this Soon...

The first leg of our northward trek didn't work at all like we had planned.  We were to depart Buckeye, AZ and make our first stop in Cameron, AZ a mere 216 mile pull.  Well, we arrived in Cameron and found the park to be quite run down and situated right on the highway, which we knew.  What we didn't know was that it was going to blow 50 mph for the next two days.  We have been in wind like that before and will try our best to avoid it in the future when the opportunity permits.  We reviewed the weather at our next destinations and found it was only going to blow 40 mph for one day at Lake Powell, so we decided we would drive on the extra 75 miles to Page, AZ.  That is until we called the only two RV parks there and found out they were full up for RVs our size.  They suggested we try again around April 18th.  That's a no thank you.  So we buckled up and pressed on all the way to Bluff, Utah for what ended up being a 400+ mile pull.  That is a long day for us.

We arrived safely and set up no problems, and enjoyed a quiet restful night.  The first day we thought there was zero cell signal and figured no TV either and couldn't get the campground WiFi to connect or work so we thought it would be a no communications stay.  A good nights sleep and we got the WiFi up and running the next day for good Internet access.  We turned on the phone in the morning and it rang!  We discovered that our Verizon phone could make and receive calls although the signal is marginal.  We also turned on the TV and there are 40+ channels here!  All four major networks come in loud and clear.  To top things off there are more sights in this area than we will have time to see on this visit.  Another example of RV adventures working out just how they are supposed to, but not necessarily how we plan.

We rode up to nearby Blanding, UT about 30 miles north and checked out Recapture Reservoir and saw a nice ruin sight.  The ruin site below is named Five Kiva Pueblo.  It was across the small canyon of Westwater Creek.

We rode down to the reservoir at the north end of town and had a look around.  It was pretty.
On the way back to the RV we stopped at a group of petroglyphs at Sand Island Park.  The pictures below were taken from the truck on the way back into Bluff, UT.
 BIG Rocks.
 The Twin Rocks in Bluff.
At the large desert varnished wall in Sand Island Park.
On the way up the trail we saw a winking Spotted Skink I think
A few of the petroglyphs left by those who came before.
This big guy was 15 ft tall and about 20 ft up the wall.  This was also one of those petroglyphs that was chiseled very deep into the rock.
