Adventures in Yuma, AZ
We are having a fine time in Yuma. Because of all of the activity we have fallen behind on our blog. We will publish a short series of posts over the next week or so and try to catch up. Today's post will cover our visit to the famed Quartzite, AZ, home of the worlds largest RV Flea Market! Lots of folks dry camp on the BLM land in Q and there is a rock and mineral show the last part of January each year which is considered by many as the high point of the winter in Quartzite. We found a couple of small turquoise stones within the rock and mineral show in Q that might replace the broken stone in my wedding band. We met a gal from Elephant Butte, NM, yep where we bought a building lot 7 years ago, she was providing jewelry repair and design services from her mobile set up in Q. We left the stones with her to cut to size, and will return to Quartzite next week to see if the turquoise stone can be fitted into my wedding band.We also visited the Hi Jolly Cemetery and Memorial. Hi Jolly was a Syrian who worked for the US Government as a Camel Driver and Scout. Hi Jolly assisted with a governemnt camel experiement around Quartzite in the mid-1800's. The memorial pyramid contains a time capsule which legend suggests contains the ashes of Hi Jolly's favorite camel.

The fascinating story of Hi Jolly in a nutshell. There I go in the background looking around the cemetery. We found graves dating back to the early 1800's.
