John's Tortise Garden

John's home is just a block or two away from Aunt Joann's lot where we are staying.  We met John last year and he invited us in for a tour of his garden.  We went back this year with Quirt and Marilyn and got another wonderful tour around John's creation.  In there he has six Desert Tortise (all given to him), a water feature that is full of Coi Fish and giant Goldfish plus aquatic turtles.  John and his wife have planted and nurtured a variety of shrubs, trees and cactus in the garden environment they created.  It is a wonderous little place right here in the Foothills neighborhood of Yuma.

John owned the local hardware store here for 20+ years and has now retired in the Foothills.

Thi first picture is looking outward from the garden area.  You can see our bikes parked out at the street by the gate.
Gari getting close to Max.  He is three years old and is the largest of John's Tortise weighing in around 50 lbs.
Marilyn scratching Max's head.
MAX!
John suggests Marilyn try to pick Max up.  Marilyn being the good sport trys and says too heavy!
John introduces us to Mrs T. and T-Man.  John tells us T-Man likes to push the other Tortise around the garden.

Coi Pond with Goldfish and aquatic turtles.  You may be able to see a turtle in the water by the toilet tank float by the bush at the left.  Steve liked the waterfall feature John built.  John has a net over the pond because a Great Blue Heron comes by and cleans the pond out without the net.  We were surprised that a Great Blue would be way out here in the desert.
Quirt & Marily by the Coi Pond.
Gari & Marily say goodbye to Max, can you see him peeking out by the bushes?
