Leaving Yuma

We successfully pulled chocks this morning, slides went in, jacks went up!  A very good day.  We towed about 280 miles today on our first leg of our 2016 Loop.  We stopped over in Benson, AZ and scored a spot at an Encore Resort here.  We plan to spend a few days here and perform our annual maintenance on our fresh water tank.  Yuma water is horrible so we didn't want to complete this task there.  Benson water is much better so now is the time.  Our eastward trek will take us all the way to the Eastern Shore, so we will be using water from the fresh tank more than from a hook up.  We will fill our 100 gallon fresh water tank with a Clorox shock load of about 6 cups per our Everpure filter manufacture recommendation.  We will let that solution sit in the tank and filter lines overnight, then in the morning drain and flush the system until the Clorox smell is gone.  We will also change out all of our water filters after we finish with the chlorine shock.

Las Cruces, New Mexico will be our next stop over.  We want to stay and visit the Old Mesilla area where Billy the Kid was held in the Mesilla Jail during his trial in April 1881.  He was convicted of the murder of Sheriff Brady. This was the only conviction of any of the combatants of the Lincoln County War.  Later he was extradited to Lincoln, NM, where he escaped and eluded capture for some time thereafter...
At that time Mesilla was a very important place being the intersection of two major stagecoach lines, the Butterfield Stagecoach and the Santa Fe Trail.
